Prototype device? SKU: OEMSHP SKU DV1 i7

Hi,

I bought a used Surface Book 2 15 on my local Craigslist. I'm unable to install the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit or the latest firmware as it says it's not a Surface device. I also can't register it the serial number can't be found. Is this a prototype device? Is this a normal SKU (OEMSHP SKU DV1 i7)? It doesn't have the "Prototype Not For Resale" etched on it like other devices seem to have.

    That is strange.

Are you near a Microsoft store? They should be able to do a complete reinstall of the OS there.

Yeah, I can't even download a new install because it asks for a serial number when you select a Surface Book 2 and mine doesn't show up. I was hoping to get some help before making a trip to a Microsoft Store.

    Hi,

I've been following this thread. I don't see that you mentioned trying the built in reset function if it was still available.

Also did you try the serial number on the bottom edge of the tablet, that's the correct one.

Yeah, I've reset it using the built in Reset my PC and the Windows Defender Fresh Start. The one at the bottom edge of my tablet matches what the Surface app says and it doesn't show up. I've also use the one at the bottom of the base.

I wish I could just get what the product SKU is, seems weird that mine would start with OEMSHP. If that's what all these apps and firmwares are keying off of it would explain why mine can't get updated.

I appreciate the information. Can you try downloading and installing the Surface Book 2 drivers and firmware from this page?

If you get any errors, please update the post.

    Thank you.

That is the page I used to install the firmware. I got the following error message:
