Surface 4 Pro screen bulging at lower left edge and separated from the frame

I have a Surface 4 Pro that I purchased in March 2016. Over the last few days, I was seeing a considerable color bleed on lower left edge of the screen. Then I stared noticing that that type cover does not seem to close flat against the screen. On closer inspection, I found that the screen is bulging (curving out) on the lower left side and the screen edge has separated from the frame, exposing a gap, Some of the circuitry inside seems to be pushing out as well from what I can see through the gap, indicating something inside is exerting an outward pressure. I pushed the screen back in and with a little pressure it got flattened. However, after a few minutes use, the screen bulged out again. There is no physical damage to the screen, the bezel or the device in general, no cracks or scratches.

What is causing this and what is a possible solution?

    Technically, it is a setting in the UEFI (different technology replaced BIOS). That setting wasn't available in original SP4s and didn't come out until late 2018. MS probably added the capability after seeing the battery problems with multiple customers and having replaced many of them.

    We were told about it way back in this thread. I had to update my UEFI to get the capability for my SP4, which was replaced by MS under the extended warranty in March 2019. I too have it plugged in most of the time. With the "Battery Limit" set in the UEFI, charge is limited to 50%. I expect it will last for years to come, maybe until MS stops supporting Windows 10 in 2025. That Battery Limit setting is available from the SP3 all the way up to SP8 (see this link).

    I just discovered there is a setting in BIOS "Enable battery lock".

    It is not explained and I had to google to find out what it was.

    I suspect if I had enabled it then my battery would not have swelled up. I keep my SP4 plugged in all the time and this keeps it from overcharging.

    Possibly, if Microsoft had emailed all owners or arranged to have it enabled during their periodic updates, none of the battery problems would have occurred.

    Hi,

    Im curious to know, did you still have warranty when you sent out the request?

    My warrenty has expired and i’m wondering if they will charge/deny me for their service.
