Surface Pro 6 Runs Slower in Dock

My Surface Pro 6 runs noticeably slower when it is connected to the dock. I have a dock at both home and work and see the same reduced performance in both places. This is not a new issue (unlikely related to a recent Win or other software update). Both docks were originally purchased for use with my previous Surface Pro 4 device.

Does anyone else notice such a pattern?

Any thoughts on what might be causing this and how to fix it?

  • Surface Pro 6, i7, 16gb
  • Win 10 10.0.17763 Build 17763
  • >300GB of 500GB hard drive are free

I don't see any obvious issues when looking at Task Manager. CPU, memory and internet are all lightly utilized.

Thanks much for any thoughts.

If I were you, I wouldn't use such software. At least not on the SP6, where you have absolutely no rescue options in case of CPU damage.

I'm experiencing regular slowdowns from my Surface 6 Pro when it's docked.  Restart and shutdown/power on do not help; updates are up to date.  The only thing that I have found that works is to unplug the power source to the docking station for about 10 seconds; once it's powered back, the Surface Pro runs at normal speeds.  Is this a sign of a bad docking station?

Have you even read few posts above? I'm not saying you should read the entire topic with horrific 30 posts, but at least last 5 posts.

Answering your question - no, your docking station is fine. The problem is related to the Surface Pro 6 firmware and CPU throttling issue. Fix is on its way.
