Surface Pro 6 Runs Slower in Dock

My Surface Pro 6 runs noticeably slower when it is connected to the dock. I have a dock at both home and work and see the same reduced performance in both places. This is not a new issue (unlikely related to a recent Win or other software update). Both docks were originally purchased for use with my previous Surface Pro 4 device.

Does anyone else notice such a pattern?

Any thoughts on what might be causing this and how to fix it?

  • Surface Pro 6, i7, 16gb
  • Win 10 10.0.17763 Build 17763
  • >300GB of 500GB hard drive are free

I don't see any obvious issues when looking at Task Manager. CPU, memory and internet are all lightly utilized.

    Using ThrottleStop, unchecking the BD PROCHOT box works a charm.

    I can toggle that checkbox and watch as TaskMan shows the SP6 processor toggle between 0.4GHz and full speed.

    So, it appears that MS has a problem with the Surface devices in that they will throttle the CPU while charging, and this appears related to BD PROCHOT.

    I wonder how many people own these devices, notice that they get slow, and don't know where to find a fix. Too bad.

    MS should really fix this in an automated update.

    Throttling problem is back for me. I'm done with it. I talked to technical support and they "feel sorry" and can't help me at the moment. So next week I'm going to prepare a lawsuit. And I will make it international news. F U Microsoft.

    Strange, I applied this FW update last week and it seems to have resolved it for me. I for sure would get the issue everyday at work when docked for 2 or 3 hours. I would never make to lunch before it would throttle the CPU. Since applying Firmware update - 241.1.139.0 on October 15th, I haven't had the issue since. Based on my experience, I'm surprised you are still having the issue.

    I have installed the latest firmware from the Microsoft site (as of 10/21/2019) and still have the throttling issue.

    However, I can still run the "ThrottleStop" program as described above to remediate.

    Doesn't look like MS has fixed it with this round of firmware updates.
