Surface Pro 6 Runs Slower in Dock

My Surface Pro 6 runs noticeably slower when it is connected to the dock. I have a dock at both home and work and see the same reduced performance in both places. This is not a new issue (unlikely related to a recent Win or other software update). Both docks were originally purchased for use with my previous Surface Pro 4 device.

Does anyone else notice such a pattern?

Any thoughts on what might be causing this and how to fix it?

  • Surface Pro 6, i7, 16gb
  • Win 10 10.0.17763 Build 17763
  • >300GB of 500GB hard drive are free

I don't see any obvious issues when looking at Task Manager. CPU, memory and internet are all lightly utilized.

    After the incident the other day, I completely shutdown my Surface at the end of my work day and left it powered off over night. Since then I have had no issue -- I used it docked all day yesterday at work, and so far so good today.

    I haven't had the problem since 10/6.  There were some updates applied at that time - so, knock on wood, maybe it was fixed?

    Strange -- suddenly today after going almost a month, the CPU throttling issue happened again for me today. Guess I'm back to using ThrottleStop again to workaround it.

    I have installed the latest firmware from the Microsoft site (as of 10/21/2019) and still have the throttling issue.

    However, I can still run the "ThrottleStop" program as described above to remediate.

    Doesn't look like MS has fixed it with this round of firmware updates.
