Surface 3 isn't playing videos

I just received my surface 3 about a week or two. Since then, I've been able to play videos without any problems. Until a few day ago I've noticed that the videos won't play on sites like YouTube, tumblr. If I click on a link, the video will begin to load, and then player will turn black and an error message will display. I havent done any updates recently or installed anything that might be messing with the videos. So I don't know if anyone else has had this issue and may know a way to solve it?

Hi, Clare'

I've been using Microsoft edge and I have tested to see if the videos would play on browsers such as internet explorer nd I was having this issue. I have since done a few updates on my computer and the issue has been resolved. Thank for replying though :)

With a new device the best first step is to ensure you have all the latest updates.  See here.

Assuming you are using the Netflix app you may also consider checking Windows Store to see if you have any apps, i.e. Netflix, have updates available.

If watching videos in the browser, please let us know which one.

    Returning with an update in case it might be helpful to anyone else facing this issue.

    First, thank you to NancyWyman for the detailed instructions about uninstalling the driver. I may yet have to use them! But since the Surface is still under warranty, I did eventually take it to the Microsoft store when I had other reasons to go to downtown Toronto. Of course, that day it played videos perfectly... But I described the problem, and another one that had cropped up by then, which was that the Surface's internet connection would quit randomly while other computers in the house stayed connected. 

    The technician installed Chrome and updates that were apparently waiting to be installed--I had thought that they installed automatically. He suggested it might work better with a docking station. Since that day it has played videos, but still dropped off the internet occasionally. I bought a docking station online for much less than it's sold for in physical stores, and that seems to have stopped the internet dropping problem.

    For those who advised me to throw out the Surface and buy something else, I can say I've been tempted! But there's a lot I like about it. I travel a fair bit and though it's light, I can get work done on it as well as I could with my heavier Sony laptop. Also, as a fast touch-typist of a "certain age" I haven't been able to adapt to the Canadian bilingual keyboard which is on most less costly laptops these days; the Surface type cover has normal-sized shift and enter keys. I wish Microsoft hadn't discontinued it.

    No, they are not. In fact, I feel that this is one of the reasons they've discontinued the lower end Surface products. There is no solution to the problem, so they just ignore it and kick the product out.

    Yes this will get your videos playing again.

        I have been deleting the driver and restarting on Surface 3 for almost 2 years now. Sometimes the video playing will work for weeks and other times only a day to two.  I am convinced that this is a driver issue but Microsoft or the company that wrote the driver for their chip won't acknowledge it or fix it. They choose to ignore the obvious problem here.
