Left Speaker Rattling

So I just purchased a Surface Go and its been a great 2nd PC. However, I consume a lot of media on it and I have noticed that the left speaker is rattling/distorting at certain frequencies. I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and whether or not I should be returning it. I googled it and it seems to be a problem with the surface pro 4 but I found nothing on the surface go. I live in a country where the return policies are not the best and it could take weeks before I get a replacement and its been only my 2nd day using it.

Thanks.

Thank you for getting back to us, Nigel. The next step you can follow is to uninstall and reinstall your audio driver to repair a possibly corrupted audio driver. To do that, refer to these steps:

    1. Go to Device Manager (Windows key + X > Device Manager).
    2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
    3. Right-click on your sound card and choose Uninstall device. Do not delete the driver software.
    4. Restart the Surface Go. It will automatically reinstall the driver we removed.

If you get the same results after following the steps above, try to disable audio enhancements. Right-click on the speakers icon on your taskbar again > choose Sounds> go to the Playbacktab > select the speaker in use > Properties> go to the Enhancementstab > select the Disable all enhancements check box. Do this for all Playback devices you have (list of devices in the Playback tab).

    Let us know the outcome.

    Hi Ruz,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have tried all the steps you have mentioned and there is still a huge difference between the left and right speaker. I have tried playing media through youtube and twitch on both the chrome and edge browser. Playing music on the spotif and windows media player application yielded the same results. Please do let me know what I should do next.

    Thanks.

I purchased a Surface Go a month ago, and now I have the same problem.

At first it worked well, and the left speaker started to make crackling noise about a week ago.

It's better at low volume (below 35), but it's too low to watch a video.

I followed all the troubleshooting steps that you suggested, but the problem is not still fixed.

Could you please suggest other steps to resolve this issue?

    Thanks.

    Hi Nigel,

Before we could determine if you would need replacement for your Surface Go, we would need to perform some troubleshooting which will help us rule out possible software issues. First, install and run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit. It will get the recommended driver and firmware udpates for your Surface Go and look for other possible software issues. After running the tool, perform a forced shutdown. Just press the power button for about 10 seconds or until the screen goes off. Restart the Surface normally and try to play audio once again.

If the same problem happens, try a different media player. It will also be helpful if you check if the issue will also manifest when playing online video or audio.

You can also run the Playing Audio troubleshooter. Just go to Settings(Windows key + I) > Update & Security > Troubleshoot> Playing Audio > Run the troubleshooter.

Next, try different audio sample rates. Right-click on the speakers icon on your taskbar > Sounds > go to the Playback tab > select the speaker in use > Properties > go to the Advanced tab > try to set different sample rates and bit depths and see if the issue will still be present.

If you still encounter the problem afer following the suggestions, please let me know by replying to this post and I'll advise you about what steps you could take next.

    Regards.
