Surface pro 4 display adapter error, "Display adapter igfx stopped responding and has recovered", event id 4101. Seems to be only when running Edge.

What date is on the current driver??

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi

I suspect devices racing to awaken are interfering with each other. Leaving WiFi on during sleep (settings > system>power & sleep), which I set yesterday,  seems to have fixed the black screen on "awakening" problem I have been having on my surface pro 4. (Of course sleep, under the balanced power scheme, consumed up to 23% of battery capacity this way).

WiFi set off during sleep used to reconnect after sign-in and startup. Updates installed in January changed this so that it was on by that time.

Since I've still gotten the MTConfig errors sometimes and also distributed COM errors and warnings on Kernel-PnP: WUDFRd failing to load for device ... and ACPI: EC returned data when none was requested, that were also being reported in the 'System' event log, inelegance remains. However, my screen isn't black and I don't have to force shutdown and reboot to wake the Surface.

Hope this helps

K

Try a two button reset

Step 1: Swipe in from the right and tap or click Settings, tap or click Power, and then tap or click Shut down to shut down Surface. If you can’t shut down Surface normally, press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds.

Step 2: After Surface turns off, press and hold volume-up button and the power button on your Surface at the same time for at least 15 seconds, and then release both.

The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.

Step 3: After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.

Step 4: Press and release the power button again to turn your Surface back on.

if this does not work, you will need to exchange it.

Man it seems like every day i find something else that is wrong with this device.  I am having issues with Bluetooth speakers now. The sound keeps going in an out. I took my sp4 in for the video issue and they stated that they are working on an updated driver. So i will give it another could of weeks then i am taking this thing back in. All this money i spent on it to have this many problems just sucks

I have no idea whether it's hardware or software and there doesn't seem to be any clear answer. Most posts seem to indicate software. My problems are:

    1. crashy buggy video driver, even after installing the newest intel update
    2. Network won't recognize other computers consistently (had 3 hours of MS tech support for that, no luck)
    3. Homegroup doesn't work (MS tech support couldn't fix that)
    4. sleep awake problem many others have mentioned
    5. The $300 hub has two monitor ports but can't get two half decent monitors going with it. even following the the MS guidelines to have them both set at 30hz

I see others have had these issues, and so I asked MS to extend my return period to give them a chance to fix it... My last possible return date is the 14 of Jan. There is no store nearby...

If I return it, I doubt I will  replace for this "Rolls Royce" i7, SSD500GB, 16GB machine. I'll be looking at competitors on the Apple side and Windows side. Hope it doesn't come to that. what a disastrous Christmas Vacation. 40 hours of Beta testing for MS.

If you really like the device/concept and don't need an almost-gaming level machine, my recommendation (before giving up) is try a return/replace for an i5 version. If it has problems, then give up. :)  This is anecdotal, but in reading through the message boards - the i7 is currently more troublesome than the i5. I had many problems with my i5 which I received on Day 1 of the product launch, and now have none (outside of the Surface Dock/PaperWeight, which is a whole other story MSFT needs to address).
