Surface pro 4 display adapter error, "Display adapter igfx stopped responding and has recovered", event id 4101. Seems to be only when running Edge.
What date is on the current driver??

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.
We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.
To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

I suspect devices racing to awaken are interfering with each other. Leaving WiFi on during sleep (settings > system>power & sleep), which I set yesterday, seems to have fixed the black screen on "awakening" problem I have been having on my surface pro 4. (Of course sleep, under the balanced power scheme, consumed up to 23% of battery capacity this way).
WiFi set off during sleep used to reconnect after sign-in and startup. Updates installed in January changed this so that it was on by that time.
Since I've still gotten the MTConfig errors sometimes and also distributed COM errors and warnings on Kernel-PnP: WUDFRd failing to load for device ... and ACPI: EC returned data when none was requested, that were also being reported in the 'System' event log, inelegance remains. However, my screen isn't black and I don't have to force shutdown and reboot to wake the Surface.

Try a two button reset
Step 1: Swipe in from the right and tap or click Settings, tap or click Power, and then tap or click Shut down to shut down Surface. If you can’t shut down Surface normally, press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds.
Step 2: After Surface turns off, press and hold volume-up button and the power button on your Surface at the same time for at least 15 seconds, and then release both.
The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.
Step 3: After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.
Step 4: Press and release the power button again to turn your Surface back on.
if this does not work, you will need to exchange it.
I hadn't tinkered with my machine either. It was the original OS that came with the machine plus Microsoft updates and firmware and hardware updates pushed by Microsoft. However I still had major problem with SP4 not waking from sleep when pressing the power button.
As suggested by other users, forcing SP4 to hibernate instead of sleep is a workaround. When I saw the note from other users suggesting the new Intel drivers fix the problem, I decided to take the risk as I don't think it could get any worse - having to press the power button and then waiting for few seconds and not knowing whether it will eventually wake up or needs restarting is not the experience you expect from a tablet in 2015. Fortunately, this driver update has fixed that problem and SP4 reliably wakes up with every power button press and so far, I haven't had any display driver crashes.
I hope Microsoft finishes testing this update and pushes the driver through Windows update soon.
I have no idea what you guys have tinkered with or installed on your SP4 but I am having zero graphics crashes on my Surface since installing the official update issued few weeks back.
It seems the ones who tinker with drivers which have still yet to be fully tested and issued by MS are the ones having the most problems....coincidence?
I am going to wait until the official driver is issued via Windows update because MS will have tested it and probably also include the calibration settings specifically for the SP4 display.
hmmm.... the only tinkering that has happened to this SP i7, 500GB, 16GB RAM computer is Microsoft Tech support.... 6 hours of it... and ZERO results, and when none of the MS support worked, I did a refresh of the entire system ... I'm 30 hours into this with zero tinkering. ... the cost of my machine and dock is $3500 Canadian + 20 hours work + 10 hours of research ... + I had to buy a new Monitor, and still the dual external monitor dock doesn't work... I have never been more disappointed with a purchase in my life...
