Surface pro 4 display adapter error, "Display adapter igfx stopped responding and has recovered", event id 4101. Seems to be only when running Edge.
What date is on the current driver??

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.
We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.
To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

I suspect devices racing to awaken are interfering with each other. Leaving WiFi on during sleep (settings > system>power & sleep), which I set yesterday, seems to have fixed the black screen on "awakening" problem I have been having on my surface pro 4. (Of course sleep, under the balanced power scheme, consumed up to 23% of battery capacity this way).
WiFi set off during sleep used to reconnect after sign-in and startup. Updates installed in January changed this so that it was on by that time.
Since I've still gotten the MTConfig errors sometimes and also distributed COM errors and warnings on Kernel-PnP: WUDFRd failing to load for device ... and ACPI: EC returned data when none was requested, that were also being reported in the 'System' event log, inelegance remains. However, my screen isn't black and I don't have to force shutdown and reboot to wake the Surface.

Try a two button reset
Step 1: Swipe in from the right and tap or click Settings, tap or click Power, and then tap or click Shut down to shut down Surface. If you can’t shut down Surface normally, press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds.
Step 2: After Surface turns off, press and hold volume-up button and the power button on your Surface at the same time for at least 15 seconds, and then release both.
The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.
Step 3: After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.
Step 4: Press and release the power button again to turn your Surface back on.
if this does not work, you will need to exchange it.
For some reason, once I log in to this forum under my live account i get an error and cannot vote or pot a reply, so i set up another account. I had a sbook, a replacement sbook, and then replaced that with an sp4. I am still having intel graphics driver issue.
I just wanted to update my experience with the graphics error since trying the sp4 (which i've grown to like more than the sbook despite the error). As others have noted, the issue is mainly in browser usage. I use firefox. The only drop in frequency i have noted is due to my drop in usage briefly but i have been using more yesterday and today and have had quite a few errors, same as with sbook. Usually the error happens once, i click the program icon in the task bar and the display is back to normal for some random while. However, this morning it happened multiple times basically on demand when i inputted search terms via the URL bar. Only other time i experienced ability to reproduce the error on demand like that was with the sbook and that involved either clicking or hovering over a certain fb page like within fb.
Other thing i wanted to mention is the graphics error, while mainly browser-related, has occurred several times while NOT browsing. It happened to me yesterday while installing the office suite on this sp4 and no browser was open at that time.

So, here are some things to do to make things "better" while Microsoft and Intel sort out the issues. Do note the Graphics Driver issue is NOT just on Microsoft Surface Pro and Book, it is on most Skylake laptops and tablets. It is an Intel Driver issue, NOT Windows 10 issue.
However, these things are a Windows 10 / Microsoft Issue I believe:
Under Power Options >> Change Plan Settings >> Change advanced power settings >> Power buttons and lid >> Change Settings to Hibernate. This will cause a small delay in resuming but will prevent the system from waking while in your bag, etc.
Under Device Manager >> Batteries >> ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, check the version of the driver, if it is dated 2006, click the Update Driver button and update it - should come back as NEC driver, dated 06/20/2013.
After installing update 1511, 10586 - Reset the PC under Settings >> Update & Security >> Recovery. Then check for updates and apply 11/02/2015 firmware update if it shows up.
There are reports, but I don't see it, that Windows Hello causes some of the issues like battery drain and blank screen. I haven't confirmed this as I like Windows Hello to much to turn off.
After I did the following three things, I have had much less issues. Granted Edge will crash on occasion, but once a day is not bothering my as it quickly restores anyway. And truthfully Chrome is not an option for me personally.
The issues in Edge will be resolved as they can update that via a monthly patch. From what I have experienced it believe it to be due to bad javascript either in videos or ads. Overall I have no other issues with Edge expect as mentioned an occasion page won't load right, but again, its the same issue, bad web developers.
Only real outstanding issue for me is the screen stops responding and a reboot is required. All we can do as I'm sure it too is a firmware issue, is to go to the Windows Feedback app, search for "surface pro 4 screen stops responding no touch" and pick a few of them to "Upvote" to let Microsoft know how many have the issue.
I'm not playing the emotional card here of blaming anyone and saying I'm getting an iPad Pro. For those of you who do, have fun with that. I like the Surface Pro 4 and it does what I need and even though these things are frustrating, 99.5% of my time with the device is positive.
