Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi

I suspect devices racing to awaken are interfering with each other. Leaving WiFi on during sleep (settings > system>power & sleep), which I set yesterday,  seems to have fixed the black screen on "awakening" problem I have been having on my surface pro 4. (Of course sleep, under the balanced power scheme, consumed up to 23% of battery capacity this way).

WiFi set off during sleep used to reconnect after sign-in and startup. Updates installed in January changed this so that it was on by that time.

Since I've still gotten the MTConfig errors sometimes and also distributed COM errors and warnings on Kernel-PnP: WUDFRd failing to load for device ... and ACPI: EC returned data when none was requested, that were also being reported in the 'System' event log, inelegance remains. However, my screen isn't black and I don't have to force shutdown and reboot to wake the Surface.

Hope this helps

K

Try a two button reset

Step 1: Swipe in from the right and tap or click Settings, tap or click Power, and then tap or click Shut down to shut down Surface. If you can’t shut down Surface normally, press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds.

Step 2: After Surface turns off, press and hold volume-up button and the power button on your Surface at the same time for at least 15 seconds, and then release both.

The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.

Step 3: After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.

Step 4: Press and release the power button again to turn your Surface back on.

if this does not work, you will need to exchange it.

I agree with your suggestion to simply return those defective devices. Ideally there is a Microsoft Store nearby. My first SP4 had wobbly buttons and the pen tip did not register with the screen. Tablet replacement has been working out just fine. With the latest MS update, there has not been any display driver errors. However, the pen replacement is still not perfect; about twice a week, the tip simply stops working. Fortunately, there is a quick-and-dirty solution: remove the battery completely out of the pen and then re-insert it right back. This high-tech remedy has worked each and every time.

So, no, SP4 is not a finished product. Its design is nearly perfect. I love the screen size, pen interaction, the relatively light weight and yes, the infinitely flexible hinge! I enjoy using it a lot. Design and implementation are two different processes and MS has faltered on the latter in some serious ways. MS of course knows full well the product was rushed out with minimum QA.

I am very hopeful that they will do much, much better with SP5 and Surface Phone.

    thank you 4 the reply

    1. yes the device freeze but only when its suppose to do an action (which i see confuse it os or something)

byt mostly the display driver stopped working with a little red message from thr right side and continue working almost the same... still its happends to much - alot

    1. yes i use it at all the time. i can surf the internet and paint in photoshop. but anytime i want to do both for example or watch stream on my dell screen and usr the tablet in the meantime - the display driver crash and maybe sometime the computer stuck and i need manueally to restart it.
    2. if its stuck - no. if it restarting - blue screen and ms message with percent letting ms know about it. if just the display driver crash - a small message from the right.
    3. since i started using the surface. i restarted it once, After reading all the 420 posts about the failure of the device display got it updated and now frustrated of all the little glitches. waiting for an update saver to fix this expansive device.

    little glitchs:

    display failure

stylus failure (need to move the normal mouse a bit and the stylus recognize again)

    Main glitches - OS CRASH

    rony.
