Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi

I suspect devices racing to awaken are interfering with each other. Leaving WiFi on during sleep (settings > system>power & sleep), which I set yesterday,  seems to have fixed the black screen on "awakening" problem I have been having on my surface pro 4. (Of course sleep, under the balanced power scheme, consumed up to 23% of battery capacity this way).

WiFi set off during sleep used to reconnect after sign-in and startup. Updates installed in January changed this so that it was on by that time.

Since I've still gotten the MTConfig errors sometimes and also distributed COM errors and warnings on Kernel-PnP: WUDFRd failing to load for device ... and ACPI: EC returned data when none was requested, that were also being reported in the 'System' event log, inelegance remains. However, my screen isn't black and I don't have to force shutdown and reboot to wake the Surface.

Hope this helps

K

Try a two button reset

Step 1: Swipe in from the right and tap or click Settings, tap or click Power, and then tap or click Shut down to shut down Surface. If you can’t shut down Surface normally, press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds.

Step 2: After Surface turns off, press and hold volume-up button and the power button on your Surface at the same time for at least 15 seconds, and then release both.

The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.

Step 3: After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.

Step 4: Press and release the power button again to turn your Surface back on.

if this does not work, you will need to exchange it.

    Sorry to hear that awesmdriver.

That makes it sound like more of a problem with Windows 10 (which they are trying to push on everyone) than the surface pro hardware/drivers.

It looks like certain NVidia cards have been having problems as well, even on new computers - look at the comments: http://www.drivethelife.com/windows-drivers/how-to-fix-display-driver-stopped-responding-and-has-recovered-on-windows-10-8-7-xp-vista.html

I also noticed people complaining about the Surface Pro sleeping issue - it was draining the battery.  I find it interesting that all the responses I've seen from MS about these issues isolate it to the Surface.  However, I have a higher end HP laptop that's about 2 years old now, which has worked perfectly.  However, when I installed Windows 10, I started experiencing problems with it going to sleep - it would shut off the screen, but the fan and stuff would still be on like it was still running.  The best solution I seen at the time was to remove the battery pack to kill it, lol.  And here I bought a new Surface Pro 4, hoping that I wouldn't have any issues......what was I thinking.....http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Sleep-and-Shutdown-issues-after-upgrading-to-Windows-10/td-p/5177663

These things make it sound like the problem lies with Windows 10.  Somehow MS is doing a good job at making all these issues sound like isolated issues with devices, not Windows 10.

Well, don't feel so bad now guys.  I have been lucky on my SP4 that I haven't seen a display driver crash for awhile.  Not to say the issue is resolved, because it's not.

However, with build 11082 on my desktop, now NVidia graphic drivers are crashing.  First time for this.  What fun.
