Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi

I suspect devices racing to awaken are interfering with each other. Leaving WiFi on during sleep (settings > system>power & sleep), which I set yesterday,  seems to have fixed the black screen on "awakening" problem I have been having on my surface pro 4. (Of course sleep, under the balanced power scheme, consumed up to 23% of battery capacity this way).

WiFi set off during sleep used to reconnect after sign-in and startup. Updates installed in January changed this so that it was on by that time.

Since I've still gotten the MTConfig errors sometimes and also distributed COM errors and warnings on Kernel-PnP: WUDFRd failing to load for device ... and ACPI: EC returned data when none was requested, that were also being reported in the 'System' event log, inelegance remains. However, my screen isn't black and I don't have to force shutdown and reboot to wake the Surface.

Hope this helps

K

Try a two button reset

Step 1: Swipe in from the right and tap or click Settings, tap or click Power, and then tap or click Shut down to shut down Surface. If you can’t shut down Surface normally, press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds.

Step 2: After Surface turns off, press and hold volume-up button and the power button on your Surface at the same time for at least 15 seconds, and then release both.

The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.

Step 3: After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.

Step 4: Press and release the power button again to turn your Surface back on.

if this does not work, you will need to exchange it.

I have been experiencing the weird display driver issue that keeps repeating itself almost every time I use the device. I have done the whole button restart trick more times than I feel is necessary along with the collection of full updates. One thing I have noticed is that the problem is more prevalent when I have the Type Cover connected to my device.

When the device driver misbehaves the majority of the pen functions stop working which is mostly due to a deep integration with the display itself (makes sense) although the other day the Bluetooth stopped working and after shutting down & update install it fixed itself.

I admit that lately the waking up problem is a lot better ... the driver manages to wake and actually displays something rather than the infra red light switching on (indicating the activation of Windows Hello) without displaying anything.

That has been great until today when I was using drawing with the pen in one note on the device with the keyboard connected behind the device (keys facing in). When suddenly the device blue screened on me with the same character ")" repeated over the whole screen. After a short moment the device rebooted. I went back to my drawing and every now and then the screen palm detection hiccupped drawing a line from where the pen was currently on the screen down to my palm and off the screen but then froze up on me ... not allowing me to erase the new line. I had to now wait a few minutes for the device to play catch up before I could work but again the device stuttered performance with lines appearing about 10-20 seconds after I drew them ... then it started working again normally.

I am almost certain there is an issue with the Type Cover which is upsetting the Display and device performance (sometimes it wont boot unless I detach the cover) ... so is there a set of buttons I can use to reset the cover or possibly is it a defective unit in which case how can I get a new one please?

Hello Microsoft, the month I am user of the Surface Pro 4, previously the Surface Pro 2. When I bought the Surface Pro 2 hardware recommending this to anyone because it was fast, sleek and stable. Unfortunately, SP4 can not yet recommend. I have a clean system without other programs, the full Windows Update as at 12.18.2015 and crazy drive me hang the display driver. The system hangs, freezes and gives a blue screen. IE 11 is better but this is not the solution. Please write when are you going to solve these problems, when new drivers.
