"hibernate would destroy my SSD in a few months", um no it would not. The Surface Pro 4 contains a Samsung PM951 SSD which has a 1.5 million MTBF rating. So, unless you plan on keeping your Surface for a 100+ years I would
say, Hibernate it and don't worry about it.
Hi, seeing you didn't respond with the details, I decided check it out. Before you begin to misinform people online, people should know what MTBF really means:
http://www.hardcoreware.net/mtbf-ssd-what-does-it-mean-for-you/
That basically states that this is the number of days a device's SSD will fail in, and basically, 150-200 is the standard before a number of them fail. Sad.
Regardless, I go back to stating the same: hibernation will incur more read writes than your ssd can stand if you do this for years. Once again, 4gb writing 5 times a day = 20gb of writing to the ssd. 7 days a week 140gb a week. 1 month = 560gb, that's more
than half a terabyte JUST to sleep the darn thing! Over the course of 1 year 6,720 gigabytes or 6.7 terabytes... This isn't YOUR usage of apps, data, downloads, etc. This is "sleeping" or "sleep substitute".
I really hope MS fixes this soon. But once again, even with that usage, your device will be ok for years and years.
Most modern SSDs, and the one included in the SP4 is very modern indeed, last for hundreds of terabytes :)
