Surface Book 2 throttles excessively, often down to 0.4 GHz

I've recently purchased a 15" Surface Book 2.

When compiling large projects in Visual Studio 2017, I find that the processor often throttles excessively, often down to 0.4 GHz. As a result, compilation takes several times longer than it does on my 5 year old MacBook Pro.

The Core Temp app shows that the CPU at this point is at 50-55 degrees Celcius or so.

The following question touched upon this problem, but the proposed solution did not work for me:

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks.

Well, this issue has drawn big circles now. Link for Reddit here.

I am also affected, I noticed it with the room temperatures rising to 30°C here in Switzerland.

I will return my SB2, it would be better to ask for a refund, now that I return my 4th device.

Microsoft is doing a poor job of explaining why a $3000 device should throttle to 400MHZ in slightly hotter environments.

This is not an ultrabook nor a notebook or tablet if this was engineered this way.

    here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/contactus/surface/

I urge you to contact them, they need to know. I got a new device in the door today, and after spending hours setting everything up and moving all of my files, after a whole day of no issues (it was 26C) in denmark today, I wanted to kick back with an episode of a show I am watching, 15 minutes in, and it started throttling again!

Damn that's real disappointing to hear. I'm on my 2nd one as well and just made a request for a 3rd service anyways.

If we keep doing it, hopefully they will realize sooner rather than later that there is a real problem here
