ok... after this battery fiasco, now the screen has begun ghosting. Microsoft really screw us bad this time. I will never ever buy another product from them. I will give it another month before the SP4 becomes an expensive paper weight.

So, like many others on this forum, we have a Surface Pro 4, in which the battery has decided to self-destruct, destroying a £1,700 machine.
The screen hasn't popped off, but the battery has swollen enough to prevent the hinge from opening as it should and for the glass on the front to be very distorted, and it registers random screen input, all the while running hotter than the central heating.
I've spoken to support. They unhelpfully told me that because my warranty is up, I would have to pay several hundred pounds (£333) to replace the machine with a refurbished unit. To me, this is completely unacceptable. These devices are clearly flawed by design. This issue is too wide spread for it to be a coincidence. The batteries used in these devices are obviously flawed, and when I suggested as such, Sean L, the person dealing with my case, stopped responding (A few days after that, I wrote to Microsoft's twitter support who confirmed that the case had been closed. Thanks Sean L.)
If the device is dangerous (as suggested by the agent who I spoke to on the phone in the first instance) and it does catch fire while we are away this summer, and it subsequently burns down a multi-million pound Cambridge University building? What then, Microsoft? You'll wish you'd just replaced it then, won't you.

At 3.5 years screen bulges, and cost to replace with a refurbished unit is higher than cost of a new (updated) machine from brick and mortar store. 1 hour on hold with customer support. Clearly not backing their products given that this is know issue for this device series.

2020-07-02T20:02:12+00:00 This is a known manufacturers battery defect with regards to the surface pro 4, they ran a banner on their main site page about the bulging battery pack issue....They even stated if your screen bulges or becomes hot, turn off your surface pro 4 computer and contact microsoft for a replacement..I even received an email from Mircosoft with regards to the my surface pro 4 and its bulging battery defect, how they can now get away with not replacing the surface 4 of customers with this known manufacturers defect that has now started bulging is beyond me, I don't care if it's one month or three years later, it's a manufacturer's defect, the computer should've been replaced for FREE, if my car has a known defect even if it's ten years later, the defect is replaced FREE of charge!!
MICROSOFT SERVICE IS A DISGRACE!!

I did talk with them and they offered a used computer for $450 with a 90 day warrantee.
So much for Microsoft, another American company goes to China to get their name ruined by poor quality. The Chinese get the technology and have one less competitor. Same old, same old. When will American companies ever learn they are being led to the slaughter.
