Surface Pro 4 Bulging Battery / Screen. 3 1/2 years old.

So, like many others on this forum, we have a Surface Pro 4, in which the battery has decided to self-destruct, destroying a £1,700 machine.

The screen hasn't popped off, but the battery has swollen enough to prevent the hinge from opening as it should and for the glass on the front to be very distorted, and it registers random screen input, all the while running hotter than the central heating.

I've spoken to support. They unhelpfully told me that because my warranty is up, I would have to pay several hundred pounds (£333) to replace the machine with a refurbished unit. To me, this is completely unacceptable. These devices are clearly flawed by design. This issue is too wide spread for it to be a coincidence. The batteries used in these devices are obviously flawed, and when I suggested as such, Sean L, the person dealing with my case, stopped responding (A few days after that, I wrote to Microsoft's twitter support who confirmed that the case had been closed. Thanks Sean L.)

If the device is dangerous (as suggested by the agent who I spoke to on the phone in the first instance) and it does catch fire while we are away this summer, and it subsequently burns down a multi-million pound Cambridge University building? What then, Microsoft? You'll wish you'd just replaced it then, won't you.

    Without a class action lawsuit, MS will not budge. I have heard even after swapping the battery, the symptom still persists. There’s nothing much you could do at this point in time.

    Well, I have purchased about 4 years ago, and my cc # has changed as  did product change.

    So mostlikely not .

    I have the swollen battery and screen is peeled as well.

    This is safety issues. I just wonder if anyone replace it by DIY which is much cheaper , but looks more complecated.

    How could such big company as microsoft can ignore these safety issue ? 

    Probabry, needs more people to raise the voice...

    Hi All, 

    I am having the same issue: battery expanding, screen bulging and now parts of the screen are not responding to touch input.

    Battery life has also diminished to only 40 min tops. 

    Spoke to MS, very poor response as surface pro is 4  years old now and out of warranty.

    Basically, pay AU$1000 to get a refurbished surface pro 4 OR just buy a new device....

    It does not matter that I already own Surface Rt and Surface pro 3 which have had no issues with battery life or expansion...let alone other products at two surface docks, pens and covers, mice, etc.

    SO disappointed... but of course they don't care, why would they.

    Once this surface pro 4 dies, I will not be buying any MS products and will jump ship back to apple as their customer service is what you would expect from a  multinational business.
