Thank you, Jon, for the detailed explanation of the problem we're having. I like your example of trying to render a specific style of font and how the jitter prevents you from doing so. I am not doing illustration and don't need to sell my hand-written work, but I can't stand the jitter I see in my own handwriting; handwriting I've known the character of my whole life.

Thank you, Barb, for pointing us to the AMA. It's heartening that SteveB replied to that question and gave a specific possible solution (increasing pen voltage). I agree with t-work that his answer is frustrating, though; I the cursor dances around the tip of the pen regardless of whether there is a ruler laid on the screen or not.

Unfortunately for me, I bought the SP3 specifically for note-taking. It doesn't seem like the pen voltage fix is coming any time soon, so I have listed it for sale this evening. I will certainly try out the S3 when it arrives, but I'm a bit soured to the product line. I hope the Surface team will give this issue high priority; if it remains unaddressed, I think they'll see many more people complaining in blogs or just selling silently on craigslist.

I'm pretty sure we are not going to get a pen replacement for free....they may sell us that pen for $60 bucks and they may call it surface pen ultra (for fine details).

He really told us he still does not understand the problem. This does not have anything to do with rulers. But he tries to point to this as one reason why people see this happen. This is not true.

When you draw -no matter which direction, no matter if straight or not, WITHOUT ruler - you can SEE the tiny dot, which shows where the pen is pointing to - JUMP , or circle around the tip of the physical pen. This jumping is which makes straight lines wavy, as well as circles, handwriting, etc.

Don't even try to pont with your fingers to user's using the pen in a wrong way (rulers) or even the user himself (not able to draw straight lines)...

It seems like he has not tried it yet, or he did not watch the tiny dot jumping away from the tips location.

Either way: I hope the voltage change can help us.

in the mean time surface support swaps out my SP3, as they still seem unaware of the real problem and where it is coming from.

I still have some hope we all have bad copies and the swap will change everything, but is more of a wish than real hope.

So, do we take this to mean that a more powerful pen will fix our woes on our currently-crippled Surfaces?
