Surface Pro 3 Wavy diagonal lines when inking

I did. It's a dang good stylus, the nib feels good. I feel like the nib alone would boost my confidence in my lines while drawing--but it doesn't do a thing for wavy lines.

The SP4 and new Surface Book ALSO have this wavy line issue but to different degrees. Not happy about it, but hopefully enough discontented SP4 and SB owners will help us get this fixed.

Has anyone tried using the pen that comes with the SP4 on the SP3?

I got the chance to try out a couple of SP4s at the MS store this past weekend, so I did some testing in OneNote 2016 (desktop) and the OneNote app.

The first SP4 I tried out was horrible. Palm rejection did not seem to be working properly. Sometimes, I'd put the stylus on the screen and it wouldn't even make a mark. As I hovered the stylus above the screen and moved my palm around, it would make random marks around the tip of the stylus, sometimes jumping up to two inces away from the tip towards the bottom of the screen. The result was a long line with jagged teeth, like stalactites. When I finally got the pen to work making marks on the screen, the experience was underwhelming. I'd say it felt as bad as the SP3.

I was so disappointed by the writing experience and jumping pen issues that I left the store. On my way out, it dawned on me that I should try out another demo unit. "Surely they didn't release this thing to the public in this state," I thought to myself. I found another unit available for demo and, to my delight, that one was working well. The handwriting seemed fairly natural - much more like my Wacom X201t - and the wavy line issue was diminished to the point of being unnoticeable. If the SP3 never existed and I only ever used the SP4 I demoed second, I wouldn't have known about the N-Trig wavy line issue. There was one issue with the second unit, though: it still sometimes randomly made stray marks while hovering the stylus over the screen. That got pretty annoying in the five minutes I did writing tests.

My plan as of now is to get the base model and try it for 30 days when it comes out. If I'm not satisfied, I'll have no problem returning it. However, I am hopeful that they've gotten it "right enough" that most people who found this thread and care about the wavy line issue will be satisfied. If you have an MS store near you, please try out the SP4 (people are probably also interested in the Surface Book, which I didn't try) and report back here.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the eraser end of the pen can now be used as an eraser in OneNote! That was a pleasant surprise. I remember this not being the case with the SP3. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I was playing with the sp4 at the store and the wavy lines have improved on the sp4 compared to the sp3. Is still little wavy BUT you can get almost the same results of the sp4 if you open the windows paint program and draw a slow diagonal line with your mouse not the pen...then draw a fast diagonal mouse with your mouse. I belive thats what you are going to get with the sp4....the sp3 is very bad compared to the sp4.

I'm still waiting on microsoft promise. They promised that they were going to fix this issue for the sp3 by increasing the "power" from the pen.
