Surface Laptop 3 (Intel) issue with DP1.2 monitor after installing January 2020 updates

Just a heads up and if someone from Microsoft sees this maybe talk to the Surface team:

After installing the January 2020 driver and firmware updates for Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 (Intel), my machine detected my external monitor (Dell U2715H) as 640x480.

The connection is made from SL3 -> Lenovo USB-C Dock Gen 2 -> Displayport to Mini Displayport on the Dell U2715h.

The problem went away after I disabled DP1.2 on the Dell Monitor and the screen was detected with its native resolution of 2560x1440 again.

    Inconsistent results is right. I though I could boot while docked to avoid issues. This hasn't been working as it comes up with the laptop screen off along with the display port. My only saving grace has been using the USB VGA to reboot after powering up while keeping the laptop docked.

    You can now update your drivers with the Intel driver pack without waiting for Microsoft. I'm testing this now.

    I'll try as well tomorrow or later in the week. The Intel version 25.20.100.7101 (8/5/2019) I've loaded last week has not really impacted the issues on my device.

    After much troubleshooting with no success...I might have a solution.

    1. Download the "Create windows 10 installation media" tool here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
    2. Follow all prompts to run/install. 
    3. When it prompts to erase or keep files, you can choose to keep everything the same.
    4. Let it run/reboot. Problem solved!? (Stay tuned, but so far all day has been good).

    FYI If it forces you to erase your entire computer first, you might have to rollback windows or turn off "Insider Previews" then re-try the tool after you are rolled-back. Then you should have the option to continue without erasing docs.

    Edit: 5/15 Problem not solved.

    Tried installing the drivers manually (successfully) but still have the same issue. Going to try to restore/revert and delete/install just Intel's drivers again and see if I have any luck like MarkL.

    Beaum's link appears to have resolved the issues I was experiencing. I followed the Intel installation recommendations by removing the Iris display device and drivers until all the Microsoft drivers were gone and the device was discovered as generic.

    I've been testing for about a week with the Windows 10 fast start up disabled and addition power cycles during the day without experiencing any issues. I have been able to set the default monitor back to the display port and have not had to rely on an ancient USB to VGA interface. Hopefully future Microsoft OEM customizations will not re-introduce the issue via Windows Update.
