Surface Laptop 3 (Intel) issue with DP1.2 monitor after installing January 2020 updates

Just a heads up and if someone from Microsoft sees this maybe talk to the Surface team:

After installing the January 2020 driver and firmware updates for Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 (Intel), my machine detected my external monitor (Dell U2715H) as 640x480.

The connection is made from SL3 -> Lenovo USB-C Dock Gen 2 -> Displayport to Mini Displayport on the Dell U2715h.

The problem went away after I disabled DP1.2 on the Dell Monitor and the screen was detected with its native resolution of 2560x1440 again.

    Yes, I have tried that as well and that doesn't work for me either.  What Display Adapter do you have?  MY Surface Pro 7 has the Intel Iris Plus Graphics and I have tried numerous driver versions.  My current driver version is 26.20.100.7641 dated 12/21/2019.

    It's strange because whenever I pug in external monitors I hear the sounds like it's connecting but an image never comes up.

    I have a workaround which works but is still unacceptable (come on MS - this can not be that hard to address)

    My work around is a USB-C to HDMI cable (thus avoiding the Surface Dock completely) - I can now use my monitor but whilst the resolution issue is fixed, the quality is not as good as Display Port.    

    So I can now work at work - but not impressed that MS has not acted on this yet.

    I have a two month old Surface Pro 7 and the instructions did not help me.  External monitors were working great for two external Dell Monitors until the February update.   Since I did the Feb update I can't get even one external monitor to work. 

    In the display settings it will show two small monitors and if I select detect monitors I get an error in red "Didn't detect another display". 

    Extremely frustrating and I'm going on three weeks.  This is my work computer and has cost time and productivity. 

    The other thing that now happens is when I plug in the Surface Dock the computer, mouse, screen everything locks up for about 15 seconds. Then I hear the sound like something connected and it comes back to life.  All after the worthless February update.

    Hello, Rodney. 

    We're sorry for the late response. We have submitted your information to our internal team and awaiting feedback/updates regarding this. For the meantime, can you try the following steps in the same exact order?

    • Disconnect peripherals from the Surface Laptop 3 including the Surface Dock (unplug it from the wall outlet).
    • Go to Device Manager and click on View, then select Show Hidden Devices.

    Expand Monitors and delete all drivers there, except for Surface Display.

    Restart the device.

    • Clear your display cache.
    1. Undock your Surface from the Surface Dock or disconnect the monitor from your Surface.
    2. Download the Surface Dock registry file. Choose to Open the file. This file will clear your cache, whether you have a dock or not.
    3. Select and run surface dock registry.reg.
    4. Select Yes to allow changes to your Surface, select Yes to confirm, and then select OK to close.
    5. Restart your Surface, reconnect the Dock and/or monitors, and try your external display again.
    • Reconnect your Surface Laptop 3 to your Surface Dock and external monitor.
