A partner is attempting to help university students gain access to Azure using their email addresses: @iilm.edu. Educational institutions typically receive some free Azure credits. However, when students try to register for Azure, they encounter the error message: "your email domain is currently not registered with us." What steps can be taken to have their domain green-listed for Azure access with their university .edu emails?

Hey Natalie,

Thanks a lot for posting this question on the Q&A portal it’s super helpful for others who might be facing the same issue )).

So, the error "your email domain is currently not registered with us" usually pops up when the university’s domain (in this case, @iilm.edu) hasn’t been verified or whitelisted by Microsoft for azure benefits. For students to access those free azure credits, the university needs to get their domain registered as an academic institution with Microsoft.

Here’s what your partner can do to fix this: first, the university’s IT admin should check if they’re already part of the Microsoft academic verification program. If not, they’ll need to apply for it. The process involves submitting proof that they’re a legit educational institution things like accreditation docs or a letter from the school’s admin.

Once the domain is verified, students should be able to sign up without that pesky error. Also, if the university is already verified but students still see the error, it might be a caching or propagation delay waiting a bit or clearing the browser cache could help.

Hope this clears things up! Let me know if you or the partner need any more details, happy to help )).

Best regards,
Alex

Hi @Natalie Amanda Leaver Ibarra ,

Thank you for contacting Q&A Forum. I would like to provide my findings and proposed solution:

Verify the Domain in Microsoft 365: Ensure that the university’s domain is fully verified in your Microsoft 365 or Office 365 portal. This process usually involves proving domain ownership through DNS configuration. Once verified, the domain should generally be recognized by Microsoft’s education programs. An administrator in charge of the institution’s IT needs to confirm that the domain’s status is active and correctly set up.

Kindly let me know if this work for you and please let me know if you have any further question.

If I have answered your question, please accept this as answer as a token of appreciation and don't forget to give a thumbs up for "Was it helpful"!

Best regards,
Eric
