I am having 2 accounts and it needs to be merged. I am getting an unexpected error and not able to proceed further with registration.

Thanks for using the Q&A platform.

Are these both Microsoft Accounts (i.e., personal Microsoft accounts like Outlook.com), or is one of them an Azure AD Account (work or school account)?

If both accounts are Microsoft personal accounts, you can link them using the Account Merge feature:

Go to account.microsoft.com and log in with the primary account.
Navigate to Your Info → Manage How You Sign in to Microsoft.
Add the secondary email and verify it.
Once added, you can set it as the primary alias.

If these are Azure AD accounts (work/school), merging is not directly supported, but you can:

Ensure both accounts have the same Azure AD tenant and assign necessary roles.
Transfer resources or data between accounts by sharing ownership.
If you need to consolidate Azure AD users, consider creating a new user and assigning the relevant permissions.

Devi, Sarala were you able to identify the account type?

Make a list of the two accounts:

Which one is personal (Microsoft Account)? (e.g., ends in @outlook.com, @hotmail.com)

Which one is work/school (Azure AD/Office 365)? (e.g., @yourcompany.com)

You can test by logging into:
https://account.microsoft.com (for personal accounts)

https://portal.office.com (for work/school accounts)

As informed earlier, if both accounts are Azure AD accounts, Microsoft does not support merging two Azure AD accounts directly. You can only try merging both accounts if they are personal accounts.

Confirm the account type before attempting to merge, and if you're not sure, you can get further assistance by raising a Microsoft support ticket for the team to assist with checking at the backend as well.

I'm having a somewhat similar issue. Before Microsoft acquired Minecraft, I had an individual account for both, the game and my purchased Microsoft products. I haven't touched Minecraft in the last few years but got more active as of late. The thing is, I seem to still have 2 distinct accounts, the Microsoft one has "priority" when it comes to logins, while I have to wait for the login key every time I want to login with my former Minecraft account. The thing is, both are registered under the same mail adress, so I can't seem to connect them together, and now I got some content for Minecraft from a Twitch drop, and it got automatically added to my Microsoft account, not to the Minecraft one. So this is finally the reason I want to combine/merge the two acounts, as this is getting annoying...

Hope you're doing well.

I actually have the same question, regarding having 2 personal Microsoft Accounts that I would like to merge.

NOTE: I'm re-asking it, since the help link provided above specifically does not answer the original question, as it does not support merging two existing MSAs, but rather explains how-to create/add a brand new Outlook.com email address as secondary to an existing Microsoft Account, which the articles says is also known as an alias.
