Windows 24H2 issues with Scanning
Dear Microsoft,
Please before you push out a cumulative update do your due diligence and make sure it will not ruin critical functions. Many scanner products will not scan anymore and pop up with a WIA no friendly name error. Currently my company is having problems with Fujitsu scanners. We need this resolved quickly to avoid service disruption; what is your eta on a permanent fix for this that ISN'T rolling back the OS to the previous version. Due to vulnerabilities our security (rightly so) will not allow us to revert.
We do have a company that seems to be working (Epson) this may be a good place to start your troubleshooting as to why this isn't working with other companies (brother, ricoh to name a few). I am under the gun here from my CIO and this needs to be resolved or at least a workaround found asap.
To the community,
Have any of you ran into this issue and if so, did you find a workaround for it?

2025-02-02T20:11:34+00:00 24H2 has killed the scanner on my Kyocera M5526cdw. I only discovered this after the 10 days allowed to roll back to 23H2.
This is disgraceful practice by Microsoft. Either get your updates right or allow a longer period for rollback.
Do you have any fix for this error?

2025-02-03T22:40:16+00:00 Quoting a temporary solution (I tried, and it works.):
Steps as what I did:
- Finish the installation of your printer driver full package normally (Checked on 24H2, OS Build 26100.2605 - Dec 10,2024 Windows updated PC) and it will end up with only scanner driver installation failed. (Basically it won't scan from Control Center 4 scanner app and if you want to check, open 'Brother Utilities'-->Tools-->Installation Diagnostics, it will tell you only Scanner driver installation failed).
- Go to 'Device Manager' --> Imaging devices --> Right click on 'Your printer name' --> Disable device
(Not delete, but disable!) - Again Right click on it, but this time click on Update driver --> Browse my computer for drivers --> Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer --> on next window you should already have your printer name, just select and click on Next.
- On next screen you will see successfully installed a driver and click on close, Imaging device which you have just disabled will be enabled by system and then close everything, do a restart once.
- Just use Control Centre 4 as you usually used to scan something and it will work this time.

2025-02-04T15:01:56+00:00 Dear Tomasz_216, Awesome Fix!
You were spot on! I am so thankful for your suggestion for these steps to on how install the drivers on a Brother machine. Like so many others here in this community, I was searching for a way to install the printer/scanner drivers that will not install on the latest 24H2 Microsoft update. I was out of time to do a 10 day roll back which I did not even know about when trying to fix this machine. My Boss felt bad that I spent about 12 hours (not on his time) with Brother Tech Support and insisted that I purchase a new machine to make my life easier and work more efficiently. But I was determined to figure it out as I instinctively knew that buying a new machine more than likely would have the same issues. I asked why the Brother MFC machine was working perfectly and then started intermittently having issues that kept growing worse over time. It wasn't until the last tech asked me to check the Windows Version on my Windows11. Sure enough, when I read it was 24H2, she said that this is the cause of my Brother MCF-L2749DW not functioning properly and the scanner not working at all, because the "scanner drivers were corrupt." The drivers for this particular Microsoft update were not available on the Brother Website. She advised that I contact/call Microsoft for a solution. That led me here to the Microsoft Community where I read countless issues with the 24H2 update. Some were much more serious than what I was experiencing and I could relate to the complete frustration. Before calling Brothers initially, I did a system recovery to an earlier date, hoping that this would solve my problem of intermittently not printing docs and pdf's and then not being able to scan. The system recovery would not allow me to go back far enough. But I did try it anyway hoping it would solve the Brother machine and start working properly. Of course it did not. I left the system recovery date roll back as is. After these countless hours of tech support, uninstalling, reinstalling, doing the Firmware update and other steps too many to recall right now, Brother was able to get the machine working except not the scanner. During the many hours on hold from a tech making notes and asking supervisors for help, I kept trying for a solution on my end while on hold and shared my experience with the tech that I was able to do a "go around" by using the IPrint&Scan app on my cell phone, but this was an extra few steps to save my document in the OneDrive Folder. I figured, I would deal with it for now until enough people complained and Microsoft would have to come up with a resolution. Since it's been months, and Microsoft hasn't fixed the issue, I resigned myself to deal with it, in the way I had many times before when Microsoft screwed up. But here in this awesome community, were suggestions and at last, Tomasz_216 hit it on the head and so simple a solution. “Rhetorical statements here” Why in the world wouldn't a Brother tech know this was a possible solution. And more importantly why wouldn't Microsoft put out a broad news statement announcing that there were issues with the 24H2 update from the gecko. I was completely in the dark if there was an announcement. “Shout Out” to Tomasz_216, you have saved the day and many hours of frustration and will make working again so much more efficient for me. My Boss thanks you too. I just hope that there are no other issues with this Microsoft update on my Windows11, that I am not aware of yet. Good Luck to those trying to find a solution. Big Time Thanks!

2025-02-05T17:08:28+00:00 MICROSOFT, Please fix this very annoying issue! Why are so many updates from you breaking things lately? Did someone else take over or something? This isn't the first time a update in the past 3 months has caused havoc. Come on do better in life.
