Get started with Study Guide

Completed

Whether you're creating a Study Guide to share with a class or guiding learners to build their own, the setup process takes just a few minutes. Start by confirming everyone has access to Copilot Notebook.

Software requirements

The Copilot Notebook Study Guide is available to Microsoft for Education users ages 13 and older and Enterprise users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Users must also have an active OneDrive or SharePoint service, since Study Guide notebooks are stored as OneNote notebooks in Microsoft 365. Access Copilot Notebooks via the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on Web, Windows, or mobile devices or in the OneNote app.

Create a Copilot Study Guide

Creating a Study Guide takes just a few steps:

  1. Open Copilot Notebooks: Open the Microsoft 365 Copilot app (or OneNote on Windows) and navigate to Copilot Notebooks from the navigation pane. Create a new notebook or open an existing one. Give the notebook a clear name that reflects the content. For example, "Biology Chapter 5 Review" or "Marketing Fundamentals."
  2. Add study materials as references: Select the references learners need to study. Add Word documents, Excel files, PowerPoint presentations, PDFs, OneNote pages, Copilot pages, or Teams meeting notes. This collection of files forms the basis of the Study Guide. View all acceptable file types.
  3. Generate the Study Guide: Select the button on the Overview page, or choose the plus (+) sign in the References pane, and then select Study Guide. When prompted, select pages and activities to include in the Study Guide. Copilot always creates a Summary page. Topic pages, Flashcards, Quizzes, and other learning activities are optional.
  4. Review and refine: After Copilot generates the Study Guide, take time to review the content. Edit any page by adding notes, adjusting phrasing, or highlighting key points. If you add new reference materials later, create a new version of the page to update the Study Guide.
