Personal Microsoft account stuck as B2B guest in former employer Entra tenants — cannot leave

After a few hours of trying to solve this myself, Copilot recommended I come here and generated this message for me to summarize the problem and what I have already tried.

I have a personal Microsoft account that is still associated as a B2B/external guest with two former employers' Microsoft Entra tenants.

I no longer work for either organization and cannot contact their administrators. I need to remove these stale tenant associations from my personal Microsoft account and have not been able to remove myself in any method I've found available through searching or helpdesk/support FAQ entries.

What I have already tried:

  • myaccount.microsoft.com does not work. It returns "You can't sign in here with a personal account."
  • Azure Portal shows the old organizations in the directory/tenant switcher, but I cannot enter the old tenant without satisfying its old MFA requirements.
  • Microsoft Entra admin center similarly requires authentication into the former tenant.
  • In Teams Personal → Settings → Accounts and orgs shows both former organizations, but there is no Leave organization button for either one.
  • My personal Microsoft account's Security settings contain only my current MFA method. The obsolete Microsoft Authenticator challenge is being requested by the former employer's tenant, not by my personal Microsoft account.
  • Azure's normal support-request process also leads into the same authentication problem, so I cannot open an Azure support ticket.

**
**If this requires Microsoft intervention, can a Microsoft moderator/support engineer please escalate this? I can provide the affected personal Microsoft account and any additional tenant information but do not want to do so publicly.

Please note that the standard instructions to visit myaccount.microsoft.com/organizations or use Teams → Accounts and orgs
→ Leave do not work in this case.

    Hi @Eric Spies

Based on what you've already tried, this sounds like a case where the normal self-service removal methods are no longer available because the guest objects still exist in the former tenants and the tenant-specific authentication requirements prevent access.

    A few points:

    • Microsoft Q&A moderators cannot directly remove guest accounts from another organization's tenant.
    • In Microsoft Entra, a B2B guest object is owned by the host tenant. Normally, a tenant administrator must remove the guest account.
    • If the "Leave organization" option is missing and you cannot complete the old tenant's MFA requirements, the standard self-service path is effectively blocked.

At that point, your best option is to contact Microsoft Support and request a review of the stale B2B guest associations. Since you cannot access the tenant to create an Azure support ticket, use the general Microsoft support channel instead:

    https://support.microsoft.com/contactus

    When you contact support, provide:

    • The personal Microsoft account affected.
    • The names or tenant IDs of the former organizations (if known).
    • Confirmation that you no longer have a relationship with those organizations.
    • Screenshots showing the tenants still appearing in the directory switcher and the absence of the "Leave organization" option.

Because this involves tenant-owned guest objects and identity records, only Microsoft Support or an administrator of the host tenant would be able to determine whether further remediation is possible.

If this information helps point you in the right direction, please consider marking it as helpful or accepted so others facing similar B2B guest tenant issues can find it more easily.
