Hyperlinks are not working in the new outlook.

Hello,

We use Outlook as a primary source of communication within our company. We cannot access links when using the Control +K method or by clicking the Link icon. This has become a major problem. Please let us know how to fix this. We never had this issue before and have not changed our process.

The issue is between one drive and outlook, so it is probably more related to one drive than outlook.

Can you investigate. If we use the online version it works but not on the desktop version.

Since the issue appears when using OneDrive links with the desktop application, while the same functionality works in the online version, further investigation will require diagnostic information from your environment.

Please refer to my comment below and raise a Microsoft 365 support ticket so that the appropriate product team can investigate the issue further

For new Outlook, links are enabled by default. If hyperlinks are blocked when using Ctrl+K, the Link button, or when clicking links in messages, check these items first:

In new Outlook, go to Settings > Mail > Junk email.
Under Security options, make sure Block attachments, pictures, and links from anyone not in my Safe senders and domains list is unchecked.
Select Save.

If the issue is with opening links from messages, another known cause is link handling restrictions after Outlook security updates. Symptoms can include errors such as:

Something unexpected went wrong with this URL
This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer
Your organization's policies are preventing us from completing this action for you

If the problem is limited to specific links that use a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) or IP address, that behavior matches a documented Outlook security protection change.

If hovering over a hyperlink does not show the embedded URL in a tooltip in new Outlook, that specific issue was fixed worldwide with a service-side fix in November 2024.

To help me better understand the issue, could you please let me know:

Are other users in your organization experiencing the same issue?
Could you please clarify what happens when you press Ctrl + K or select the Link icon in New Outlook? Does nothing happen, or do you receive an error message?
If you receive an error, please take a screenshot and share it with me.

In the meantime, please try the following:

1.To preserve hyperlink formatting when pasting into Outlook, try using the “Keep Source Formatting” paste option. You can do this by right-clicking in the email body and selecting “Keep Source Formatting” from the paste options. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + Alt + V to open the Paste Special dialog and choose HTML Format.

For reference: Control the formatting when you paste text

Note: This article is written for Microsoft Word. However, the Keep Source Formatting approach may also be useful to try when pasting formatted content into Outlook.

2.Also, make sure your email is set to use HTML format. Outlook supports HTML, Plain Text, and Rich Text formats. To check this, go to File > Settings > Mail, and under the Compose messages section, ensure that HTML is selected.

We are all having this issue. I've done some research and many people from different organizations are having this issue so it is not something new that has been brought to your attention. My settings are set up exactly like that. The link are not working. There is no error code. They simply do no link. We need this resolved.

I tested both Ctrl + K and Insert Link in my New Outlook test environment, and both functions are currently working as expected on my side.

Since the issue is organization-wide in your environment, and you have also observed other users reporting similar behavior, I recommend raising a Microsoft 365 support ticket via Microsoft 365 Admin Center>Support>Help & Support so the appropriate support team can investigate further. You can raise support ticket from: https://admin.cloud.microsoft/?#/support/requests

The support team over there has higher permission than us to investigate the issue from background, they have more resource and correct escalation channel in handling this kind of issues. This would be a more efficient way in handling the case for you.
