Try these checks in order:
- Restart the PC once Temporary sign-in glitches can cause repeated prompts after returning to the desktop. If updates are pending, use Update and restart.
- Check whether the device is locking and requiring sign-in again Since this happens after a short break, the sign-in prompt is often triggered when Windows returns from an idle state or lock screen.
- If using Windows Hello PIN or biometrics, test with the account password in Safe Mode
Safe Mode only allows password sign-in, not PIN or biometrics. If sign-in works there, the issue is less likely to be caused by basic drivers or default settings.
- On the sign-in screen, select Power > Restart.
- When the sign-in screen appears, hold Shift and select Power > Restart.
- Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- After restart, select 5 or press F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
- Check the internet connection from the lock screen Some sign-in scenarios need internet access. On the lock screen, select Network and confirm the PC is connected. If Wi‑Fi is unstable, try Ethernet if available.
- If there are multiple accounts on the PC, try another account On the sign-in screen, select another account from the lower-left corner. If another account works normally, the problem may be limited to the original profile.
- If the issue started after moving to a new PC or after repeated sign-in failures, verify date/time and install updates Go to Settings > Time & Language > Date & time and turn on automatic time and time zone, then install pending Windows updates and restart.
If the repeated sign-in is specifically tied to Windows account problems, use the relevant self-help article for the exact symptom:
- Forgot your PIN
- Change or reset your Windows password
- Forgot your Microsoft account password
- Not getting verification codes
