Try these steps in order:
- Use a different USB cable. Some cables only charge and cannot transfer files.
- Unlock the phone before connecting it. A locked phone may not be detected by the PC.
- On the phone, change the USB connection mode. After connecting, open the phone’s notifications and change the USB option from charging to File Transfer, Transfer media, or MTP.
- On the PC, try importing through the Photos app. Select Start > Photos > Import > select the connected device, then follow the prompts.
- If using Android and only recent photos are needed, try Phone Link. This can copy recent photos without a USB cable. It requires Android 7.0 or newer.
- If using iPhone, check for the trust prompt. On the iPhone, select Trust or Allow when prompted.
- If iPhone photos are stored only in iCloud, import them with iCloud for Windows instead of USB.
- If the phone still only charges and does not appear in Windows, try another USB port on the PC.
If the device appears but file transfer still fails, make sure only one file transfer is running at a time in Phone Link, and keep the Phone Link window open during drag and drop.
