Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
14.0 or later means the current Microsoft 365 for Mac installer now requires macOS 14 or newer on that iMac.
What to check first:
- On the iMac, open Apple menu > About This Mac.
- Check the macOS version.
- If it is below macOS 14, the current installer will not install.
What to do next:
- If the Mac can be upgraded to macOS 14 or later, update macOS first, then download and install Microsoft 365 again.
- If the Mac cannot be upgraded, check the Microsoft 365 for Mac system requirements. The install will not succeed with the current installer on an unsupported macOS version.
- If the installer may be corrupted, delete the installer by dragging it to Trash, empty Trash, then download it again using Safari from Microsoft 365 apps and select Install apps.
- If the installer downloads but will not open, move Microsoft Office installer.pkg from Downloads to the desktop and double-click it again.
- If the installer shows an unidentified developer warning, select OK, wait 10 seconds, move the file to the desktop, then hold Control and select the file and choose Open.
If Microsoft 365 was working before and now shows this requirement, the most likely cause is that the Mac is on an older macOS version and the current installer no longer supports it.
