I recently had to replace my computer motherboard. Now Windows 11 is saying my Activation key is no longer valid.

I attempted to respond with the hardware change, still wont accept it.

please assist

Hi,

Did you purchase a Windows 10 product key separately and then get a free upgrade to Windows 11?

Or

Did the PC come pre-activated with Windows 10, 7, or 8/8.1, and you upgraded to Windows 11?

You might have an OEM key tied to the previous motherboard; could you provide more details, if possible?

I purchased Windows 11 Pro on eBay . Received a USB and activation card.

I installed, activated , and was fully functional for 6 months.

Had a mishap with the audio cable and blew the sound chip on the MB. I purchased a replacement and now it won’t accept my key.

Hi,

Are you sure it isn't an OEM key you purchased? If not, try the following:

Install ShowKeyPlus and make a note of the key if you don't have it recorded already.

Open the Command Prompt (as administrator) and run the command: slmgr /upk. This command will uninstall the current key; then restart your PC and disconnect from the internet.

Go to Start > Settings > System > Activation > Change product key (or Troubleshoot), enter the key, and see if it activates.

If it activates, restart the PC; if it remains active after the restart, connect to the internet.

This is an offline activation method.

If it doesn't work, the key might be an OEM key; you can try verifying this with ShowKeyPlus.
