Hello guys,

I was thinking...could Microsoft pay Google to aquire their AI platforms like Gemeni? Microsoft at one point used Cortana and UI software for W10. As AI technology advances quickly what are your feedbacks on thus?

In short - no. While Microsoft has the financial capital to make an offer, a transaction where one trillion-dollar tech giant buys the flagship AI technology of its direct competitor is practically and legally impossible.

The concept of a tech company paying a rival for software or UI - similar to how Microsoft historically integrated or adapted different software layers - does happen on a smaller scale, but a full acquisition of a core frontier AI platform like Google Gemini will not happen for several reasons.

For starters, regulatory bodies like the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Justice, and European Union regulators are aggressively scrutinizing the AI market to prevent monopolies. Google is actively facing significant antitrust rulings aimed at addressing its search and ad-tech dominance. A Microsoft acquisition of Gemini would face substantial competition and antitrust issues across multiple jurisdictions.

AI is not a side project or a temporary UI feature like Cortana was for Windows 10. For Alphabet, Google’s parent company, Gemini is a foundational technology supporting the future of Google Search, Google Workspace, Android, and its broader cloud ecosystem. Selling it to Microsoft, one of Google’s largest cloud and software competitors, would conflict with Google’s strategic interest in maintaining control of its core AI technology.

In addition, Microsoft does not need to buy Gemini. The company is already heavily invested elsewhere. Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in OpenAI and continues to maintain a significant relationship with the company, including access to OpenAI technology. Although the relationship has evolved and become less exclusive, OpenAI remains an important part of Microsoft’s AI strategy. Microsoft has its own extensive internal AI capabilities and continues developing models and AI technologies.
