Why Can’t Minecraft Java and Bedrock Be Purchased Separately?

Why can’t Microsoft let players purchase Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition separately? While bundling both editions may be convenient for some players, it can be inconvenient for people using operating systems such as macOS and Linux. Bedrock Edition is not officially available on either macOS or Linux, meaning users on these platforms who only want Java Edition are effectively paying for an edition they cannot officially play on their computer.

Why should a Mac or Linux user have to purchase both editions when Java Edition is the version they can actually use? Having the option to buy Java Edition separately would make the purchasing process more flexible and allow players to pay only for the version they can use.

This can also be frustrating for people who use Microsoft Rewards points or gift cards to save up for Minecraft. If they only want Java Edition, they still have to spend their points or money on the combined package rather than being able to choose Java Edition by itself.

Wouldn’t allowing players to choose between Java, Bedrock, or both make Minecraft more convenient for everyone, especially those using platforms where Bedrock isn’t officially supported?

You are not actually being charged for both versions of Minecraft, if you purchase one version you get the other version for free, that was a deal that Mojang provided a couple of years ago, so Mac or Linux users are not being penalized for the operating system they are using.
