If the Zcan+ mouse scanner depends on an older driver that is not available for Windows 11, the practical options are limited.
- Check whether Windows Update can find a compatible driver:
- In the taskbar search box, type check for updates.
- Select Check for updates.
- Under Windows Update, select Check for updates again.
- If a compatible driver exists, Windows may install it.
- Check Device Manager for a manual driver update:
- In the taskbar search box, type device manager.
- Select Device Manager.
- Find the scanner or mouse device in the hardware list.
- Double-click the device name.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Update Driver and follow the prompts.
- If the device is not detected, try adding it again:
- Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices.
- Select Add device.
- Follow the on-screen steps.
- Make sure the device is powered on and, if needed, in pairing mode.
- If Windows 11 still does not recognize it, the most likely cause is driver incompatibility. On Windows 11, hardware works only if the required drivers are built into Windows or provided by the hardware maker. If the manufacturer is out of business and no Windows 11 driver exists, full functionality may not be possible.
- If the device uses a blocked or incompatible driver, Windows Security may prevent it from loading. In that case, an updated compatible driver is the preferred fix. Turning off Memory Integrity is possible, but it reduces device security. On Secured-core PCs, it removes the device from a Secured-core state.
- If no compatible driver exists, the realistic options are:
- Continue using a supported scanner or mouse scanner that has Windows 11 drivers.
- Use the device on an older supported Windows version if compatible hardware and software are available.
- Replace the Zcan+ with hardware that explicitly supports Windows 11.
This matches the general Windows 11 limitation for older hardware and software: if the driver was never updated, the device may no longer work after the upgrade.
