that allows this to pop up Correlation Id: [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed] Timestamp: 2026-09-19T10:13:19.000Z DPTI: [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed] Message: The credential is invalid. Unexpected sub status (6008). Tag: 657rx Code: 2148073494

    Hello Gregg,

Thank you for providing the error details.

Before proceeding, could you please confirm whether the affected work account can access the following services through a web browser?

If both services work correctly on the web, the account credentials and services are may still valid, and the issue may related to locally cached authentication information on the PC.

    Please try the following steps:

1/ Sign out of the affected work account in Outlook, OneDrive, Teams, and any other Microsoft 365 applications. Then, close all Microsoft applications completely.

    2/ Clear the saved credentials:

    • Press Windows key + S, search for "Credential Manager", and open it.
    • Select Windows Credentials.
    • Look for entries related to Microsoft 365, Office, Outlook, OneDrive, or the affected work account. Remove the relevant entries to clear outdated authentication information.

3/ Reset OneDrive by following the instructions in the article below: Reset OneDrive

Resetting OneDrive does not delete your files, but it disconnects the existing sync connections and performs a full synchronization after OneDrive starts again.

4/ Depending on whether you use Classic Outlook or New Outlook, you can also refer to the following article for the available Office cache-clearing steps: Clear the Office cache

After completing the steps, shut down the computer completely. Turn it back on, open the Microsoft applications, and sign in again with the affected work account.

Please let me know whether Outlook and OneDrive work on the web and whether the same error remains after completing these steps. If the web versions are also blocked, I recommend contacting your organization’s IT administrator to verify the account, license, and any device access policies applied to personal computers.

    Kind regards,

Since Teams started working after clearing credentials, the remaining Outlook and OneDrive failures on this personal PC point to stale or invalid work-account sign-in data on the device.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Clear saved Microsoft work account credentials
      • Open Control Panel > Credential Manager > Windows Credentials.
      • Remove entries related to the work account, Microsoft 365, Office, OneDrive, or Teams.
      • Restart the PC.
    2. Disconnect and reconnect the work account from Windows app access
      • Open Settings > Accounts > Access work or school.
      • If the work account appears there, select it and choose Disconnect.
      • Restart the PC.
      • Go back to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school and connect the work account again.
      • This removes the device-side account connection only; it does not delete Microsoft 365 or OneDrive cloud data.
    3. Clear OneDrive cached sign-in data
      • Close OneDrive.
      • Press Windows + R.
      • Open: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\settings
      • Delete PreSignInSettingsConfig.json.
      • Start OneDrive and sign in again with the correct work account.
    4. Reset OneDrive
      • If OneDrive still fails, reset it. Resetting OneDrive does not delete files or data on the computer.
      • Then try signing in again.
    5. Check for account-type mismatch
      • OneDrive sign-in errors can occur if a personal Microsoft account is being used where a work or school account is required, or the reverse.
      • Make sure Outlook and OneDrive are signing in with the organization account, not the personal Microsoft account.
    6. If Office apps are failing, update Office
      • Open an Office app such as Word.
      • Go to File > Account.
      • Under Product Information, choose Update Options > Update Now.
    7. Repair Office before reinstalling
      • If Outlook still does not work after the steps above, repair Office first. This is the recommended step before uninstalling and reinstalling.
    8. If the issue remains unresolved
      • If other people in the organization can use OneDrive normally and the problem is only on this PC, create a Microsoft support incident through the admin route listed in the support guidance.
