If this is a local Windows account, the password can be removed from Settings:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Select Password > Change.
- Enter the current password and select Next.
- Leave the new password fields blank.
- Select Next > Finish.
If the PC signs in with a Microsoft account, removing the account password is not the supported path. A supported alternative is to sign in without a password by using passwordless options for the Microsoft account.
If the issue is only that Windows asks for credentials at startup and the goal is automatic sign-in, netplwiz can be used:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type netplwiz and press Enter.
- In User Accounts, select the account.
- Clear Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.
- Select Apply.
- Enter the current password to confirm.
- Restart the PC.
Warning: removing the password requirement or enabling automatic sign-in reduces security. Anyone with physical access to the PC may be able to access files, email, and saved passwords.
If Windows is using a PIN, that is separate from the account password.
