For a school account, the fastest checks are:
- Confirm the correct account type is being used. A school account must be used with work or school sign-in, not a personal Microsoft account. Personal and work/school accounts don’t synchronize, and using the wrong account type can cause sign-in errors.
- Try the school account password reset flow: Work or school password reset.
- If sign-in still fails, open the My Account portal at https://myaccount.microsoft.com. If access is blocked there too, contact the school IT admin.
- On Windows, check whether the account is connected to the device:
- Open Settings
- Select Accounts
- Select Access work or school
- If the school account is missing, select Connect and sign in with the school account
- If the device is already connected but access still fails, contact the school IT support. They may have restrictions or requirements in place that block access to certain resources.
- If the problem is related to two-step verification or repeated failed sign-in attempts, wait and try again later, or use a different MFA method if available. If unusual activity is suspected, the school IT admin should review the Microsoft Entra sign-in logs.
If the message specifically says “You don't have access” or “There was a problem”, checking with the school IT department is the next step because the account may need access enabled or a policy may be blocking sign-in.
