If the account is still in a Microsoft Family group, Family Safety restrictions can continue until the account is removed from the family group or the organizer turns off the related controls.
Use this path:
- Sign in to the family settings page at https://account.microsoft.com/family and check whether the account is still listed in the family group.
- If a family organizer manages the group, have that organizer select the member account and turn off Activity reporting on each device platform tab.
- If the goal is to stop Family Safety controls completely, the organizer should remove the account from the family group.
- If Remove from family group is not available, the organizer may need to select Remove consent first, then return and remove the account from the family group.
- If website restrictions still apply on Windows after removal or settings changes, run a safety reset on each affected PC:
- Press Windows + R
- Type
cmdand select OK - Run:
schtasks /run /tn "Microsoft\Windows\Shell\FamilySafetyRefreshTask" - Restart the computer
Important details:
- Only a family organizer can remove another member from the family group.
- Consent can only be managed by the adult who originally granted it.
- If Manage consent shows nothing, consent may have been granted by another adult or another Microsoft account.
- Removing the account from the family group also removes the organizer’s ability to manage Family Safety settings, and shared family benefits may also be lost.
