print column titles is greyed out ? won't let me enter rows to print column titles

This usually happens for one of these reasons:

1. More than one worksheet is selected
   • Right-click any sheet tab.
   • Select Ungroup Sheets.
   • Then go to Page Layout > Print Titles again.
2. Excel is in cell editing mode
   • Press Esc.
   • Reopen Page Layout > Print Titles.
3. A chart is selected on the worksheet
   • Click any normal cell in the sheet.
   • Then try Print Titles again.
4. No printer is installed in Windows
   • Excel can dim Print Titles if no printer is installed.

After the option is available, set the first 3 rows to print on every page:

1. Select the worksheet.
2. Go to Page Layout > Print Titles.
3. On the Sheet tab, in Rows to repeat at top, enter:

      $1:$3
   

4. Click OK.

If selecting rows is easier:

• Click the Collapse Dialog button next to Rows to repeat at top.
• Select rows 1 through 3 in the worksheet.
• Click the button again to return to the dialog.

If it is still greyed out after that, switch to View > Page Layout and try again. If the workbook came from another system and still blocks the setting, copy the data into a new blank workbook and set Print Titles there.
