Multiple problems since september update

History is no longer syncing

computer is not recognized on banking websites

apps are acting differently/not working

restore points have disappeared

need help!!!

File History not working after the September update is a widely reported problem, Microsoft have indicated they are aware of this problem and they are working to provide a fix for that as soon as possible.

For the other problems you are experiencing, the best first option would be to open the Settings App, go to Windows Updates - Update History, scroll to the bottom of that window and select 'Uninstall Updates' and check if you can uninstall the update that caused the problems from there.

If that is not possible, in the Settings App, go to System - Recovery.

Click the 'Reinstall Now' button in the 'Fix problems with Windows Updates' section, then wait for that process to complete, this process does not affect your files, settings or installed apps.

Hey Dave thanks for reaching out! I tried uninstalling updates - only 2 show for September - KB5129195 - Sept 15 and KB5126052 9/18 (today). There was one for 9/9, I selected uninstalled but I think it just reinstalled it today?

I went ahead and did the reinstall as mentioned but that hasn't seemed to do anything.

For an example - I try to login to a bank website. It doesn't recognize my computer - sends me a code - asks for password. I finally get in. It asks do you want us to remember this computer? I click YES. I log out. Log back in and it does the whole thing over again.

I try to login facebook - it doesn't recognize me. I google a facebook page - I'm not signed in at this point, asks me if I want to sign in, my name & password are on top, I click on it and I'm good to go!

Weird stuff!!

I am using Edge. Same thing happens though on Chrome & Firefox. I have recently cleared cache/cookies

Open your browser settings and check that the setting to clear cookies.. etc. when the browser is shut down is not enabled.

If that setting is not enabled, then you may need to wait for the October update to be released to resolve any problems caused by the September updates, because if the problem exists in multiple browsers, this is most likely caused by one of the September updates.

Sorry, I was offline, this is the setting to check, if this setting is enabled to clear cookies when Edge is closed, that may be causing the problems.

Repairing Windows by reinstalling the same version may help. It repairs system files and components while preserving your apps, files, and settings, but I still recommend backing up important data just in case. You can perform the repair using the Microsoft guide below:
