Using the New Outlook for Mac for personal email and calendar
The most likely reason is that Outlook is stuck offline, and in Outlook for Mac the online/offline state is controlled from the app menu rather than a separate switch.
Try these steps:
- In Outlook for Mac, open the Outlook menu.
- Check whether Work Offline is selected.
- If it is checked, click Work Offline once to remove the check mark and return Outlook online.
If Outlook still does not connect after that, check these common causes:
- Verify the Mac has Internet access
- Open a web browser and confirm that websites load.
- Check the account connection status
- Go to Tools > Accounts.
- Look at the Exchange account.
- If the connection indicator is orange, Outlook is not connecting to the server.
- Test the account outside Outlook
- Try signing in with the same account in Outlook on the web.
- If that also fails, the issue is likely with the account or server rather than the Outlook app.
- If this is an Exchange account, clear a corrupted cache
- Warning: emptying the cache deletes any information not synchronized with the Exchange server, including contacts' mail certificates.
- Make sure the Mac is connected to the Exchange server.
- In the navigation pane, right-click the Exchange folder.
- Select Properties.
- On the General tab, choose Empty Cache.
- Outlook will download the items again from the Exchange server.
- If using legacy Outlook and the switch location changed
- In some Outlook for Mac builds, the New Outlook toggle was moved.
- Use Help > Revert to Legacy Outlook.
If the problem started immediately after updating to 16.113, collect the exact Outlook build from Outlook > About Outlook and use Help > Contact Support in the app for a Microsoft account, or contact the organization help desk for a work or school account.
