Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
If the contact was added but does not appear in Outlook 365, use this check order:
- Check whether the contact exists in Outlook on the web
Open Outlook on the web and go to People.- If the contact appears there, the issue is likely the Outlook app sync or local state.
- If it does not appear there, the contact may not have been saved to the mailbox contacts.
- If it appears on the web, refresh Outlook sync
In new Outlook, go to:- Settings > General > Privacy and Data > Reset
- Then remove and re-add the account under Settings > Accounts
- If using classic Outlook, confirm where the contact was saved
When composing a message and selecting To, Cc, or Bcc, Outlook shows the default address book.- With an Exchange or Microsoft 365 account, that is the Global Address List.
- With a POP or IMAP account, Outlook shows the Contacts folder. If multiple contact folders or address books exist, use the Address Book drop-down to switch between them.
- Search instead of browsing
In the address book or People view, type part of the contact name in Search and select Go. This helps confirm the contact is present but not visible in the current list or folder. - Check for duplicate-handling behavior
In new Outlook and Outlook on the web, exact duplicate contacts are automatically hidden. If the new contact is an exact match to an existing one, it may be hidden rather than shown as a separate entry. - If contacts were stored locally in classic Outlook
Contacts saved in a local Contacts (This computer only) folder do not automatically appear in new Outlook. Export them from classic Outlook to a CSV file, then import them into new Outlook. - If Outlook still does not show the contact
Submit feedback from the app:- Open Outlook
- Select Help
- Choose Feedback
Important: if modifying many contacts to fix duplicates, back up contacts first to avoid accidental data loss.
- Add, find, edit, or delete a contact in Outlook
- Find people and contacts
- Manage duplicate contacts in Outlook
