Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
This usually happens because Microsoft detected a sign-in from a new location or device after travel and is asking for extra verification.
Try this in order:
- Sign in to Outlook.com in a browser first.
Use the standard sign-in page and check whether the mailbox opens there. - If sign-in is blocked or the account appears locked, use the Sign-in Helper.
If the account was temporarily blocked because of unusual sign-in activity, this is the supported way to unblock it. - If prompted for verification, complete the security check.
Travel can trigger an extra verification step by email, SMS, or the Microsoft Authenticator app. - If browser sign-in works, remove and add the account again in New Outlook.
In New Outlook, go to Settings > Accounts > Your accounts, remove the affected account, then add it again. - If New Outlook keeps looping on sign-in, repair or reset the app.
Go to Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Outlook (new) > Advanced options. Try Repair first. If that does not help, use Reset, then open New Outlook and add the account again. - Before future travel, make sure the Microsoft account security info is current and set up Microsoft Authenticator.
Microsoft may ask for confirmation when signing in from a new place or device.
If the account still cannot be unblocked after the security code or password steps, use the Microsoft account sign-in recovery guidance.
