- Stop deleting files manually. Remove ScreenConnect by uninstalling it from Start > Settings > Apps, find the app, and select Uninstall. If a reboot is requested, restart the PC.
- Run a malware scan before removing anything else. Open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection and run a scan. If Malwarebytes or Windows Security is detecting threats, clean those first, then continue with app removal.
- If the same detections keep returning after restart, run Microsoft Defender Offline:
- Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection
- Under Current threats, select Scan options
- Select Windows Defender Offline scan > Scan now
- Save work first, because the PC restarts before the scan
- If ScreenConnect or related security software will not uninstall normally, use the Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter. It can fix problems that block uninstall, including corrupted registry keys and incomplete uninstall data.
- If more than one antivirus or antispyware product is installed, remove unwanted security software. Running multiple antimalware products at the same time can cause decreased performance, instability, or unexpected restarts. Caution: after uninstalling security software, make sure Microsoft Defender Antivirus is enabled and Windows Firewall is turned on so the PC is not left unprotected.
- If files were only partially deleted and the system still behaves as compromised, the supported recovery path is to back up files and use Reset this PC. Restore files from backups created before the infection when possible, because backups stored on the PC during infection may also have been modified.
- If Malwarebytes is blocking an
.exeright now, do not allow or restore it unless the file and publisher are fully trusted. In Microsoft security software, Remove deletes the file, Quarantine blocks it from running, and Allow lets it run again.
