When I set up my New PC/Laptop and signed in to my Microsoft account, Dynamic Lock is paired to my old phone.
During setup I deleted the old phone and connected new one via Bluetooth, Dynamic Lock doesn't recognize it for use.

2026-09-17T18:13:40.26+00:00 Dynamic Lock uses a Bluetooth-paired phone and locks the PC when that phone’s Bluetooth signal drops below a threshold and the PC is idle. If the old phone was removed, the new phone must be paired successfully in Windows before Dynamic Lock can use it.
Try this end-to-end check:
- On the PC, pair the new phone again:
- Go to Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
- Select Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth.
- Put the new phone in discoverable mode, select it in Windows, and complete pairing.
- Expected result: the phone appears as a paired Bluetooth device.
- Make sure the old phone is no longer paired in Windows:
- In Bluetooth & other devices, confirm only the current phone is listed for this purpose.
- Turn on Dynamic Lock in Windows sign-in settings:
- Open Windows Sign-in options.
- Turn Dynamic lock On.
- Dynamic Lock uses the paired phone’s Bluetooth signal and can lock the device within about a minute after the phone is out of Bluetooth range.
- Test it correctly:
- Leave the PC idle and take the new phone away.
- Dynamic Lock only locks the device when the Bluetooth signal drops and the system is idle. If the PC is being used, it won’t lock immediately.
Important notes:
- Dynamic Lock is an extra protection layer, not a replacement for manually locking the PC.
- Microsoft recommends the default Dynamic Lock signal settings because Bluetooth signal measurements vary by environment.
- If the new phone does not appear during pairing, make sure Bluetooth is turned on and the phone is discoverable, then pair again.
