Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
Blocking in Outlook.com or Outlook on the web does not stop mail from being sent. It moves messages from that sender or domain to the Junk Email folder. If the spammer keeps changing addresses or domains, blocked entries will not catch every new message, which is why similar messages can keep appearing.
Use this approach:
- In Outlook on the web or Outlook.com, go to Settings > Mail > Junk email.
- Add the exact email address under Blocked senders or the domain under Blocked domains.
- Select Save.
- Check that the sender or domain was not accidentally added to Safe Senders.
- If the messages are still coming from changing addresses, blocking one sender at a time will not scale. Create a rule based on a pattern you recognize, such as the sender, subject text, or other repeated content, and move or delete those messages.
- Report the messages as Junk or Phishing so filtering can improve.
Important details:
- Messages from blocked senders are sent to Junk Email, not fully rejected before delivery.
- In Outlook on the web and Outlook.com, email in Junk Email is automatically removed after 14 days and cannot be recovered after that.
- If a blocked message is still showing in Inbox, verify the blocked entry matches the real sender address or domain exactly.
If the goal is to avoid Junk filling up, a mail rule that deletes matching messages is the closest available mailbox-level option.
