If the charge does not appear under any Microsoft account and there are no matching subscriptions or payment methods on the account, the most likely cause is that the card was used on a different Microsoft account or the payment information was compromised.
Recommended actions:
- Go to the Manage your payments page in the Microsoft account dashboard and select Investigate for the charge.
- Check the common causes Microsoft lists for unrecognized charges:
- recurring billing on a subscription
- a purchase by someone known to the cardholder
- a previously declined charge being retried
- a pre-order or split order shipping
- an in-app purchase
- If the charge still cannot be found on any Microsoft account, ask the bank or card provider to treat the card as compromised or stolen, not just as a disputed charge. Microsoft specifically advises contacting the bank or payment provider to prevent more charges.
- If support is still needed, use Contact Microsoft Support and provide the charge details.
- Use a chargeback only when needed through the bank or card provider. Microsoft notes that chargebacks are disputes initiated through the financial institution.
Important:
- If the subscription was cancelled very close to the billing date, a charge can still go through. Microsoft says cancellations must be more than 2 days before the billing date.
- If the issue is specifically a Minecraft purchase or subscription, Minecraft support may also need to be involved.
