A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data
Hi Finance Officer & Treasurer,
Having two email addresses listed in your organization does not necessarily mean that both accounts have a license for the desktop versions of Word and Excel. Each user must be assigned an individual license, and the subscription plan must include the Microsoft 365 desktop apps.
For reference:
- Assign or unassign licenses for users in the Microsoft 365 admin center
- Overview of licensing and activation in Microsoft 365 Apps If you have administrator access, please:
- Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center
- Go to Users > Active users.
- Select the affected account ending ******@standrewsfarnham.org.
- Open Licenses and apps.
- Confirm that:
- A license is assigned to this account.
- The subscription includes the desktop versions of Word and Excel.
- The Microsoft 365 Apps service is enabled.
If there is only one available license, it may currently be assigned to the other account. In that case, you would need to move the license or purchase an additional license so that both users can use the desktop applications.
After confirming the license, open Word or Excel and go to File > Account. Sign out of all accounts, close every Office application, reopen Word or Excel, and sign in with the ******@standrewsfarnham.org account.
I also recommend confirming that Office is signed in with the account associated with the subscription when an Unlicensed Product message appears. If the license is already assigned, please recheck the exact name of the subscription shown under Billing > Your products.
To learn more, please visit:
- Unlicensed Product and activation errors in Office
- Activate Office for Windows
- Manage Microsoft 365 user accounts, licenses, and groups with PowerShell
- Add users and assign licenses in Microsoft 365
- Assign Microsoft 365 licenses to user accounts
- Users might receive a Product Deactivated error in Microsoft 365 Office apps
I hope the information I shared earlier was somewhat helpful in addressing your issue. If you have any further questions or updates, please don’t hesitate to share. Any updates would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
