Does the September 14 OOB patch fix RDS issues?

Hello Team,

We are reviewing the September 14, 2026 Out-of-Band (OOB) updates released by Microsoft to address the Remote Desktop Services (RDS) issues introduced by the September 2026 security updates.

Could anyone who has already deployed the OOB patch please share their experience regarding the following:

  • Has the OOB patch fully resolved the RDS/RDP connection and sign-in issues?
  • Have you observed any new issues after installing the OOB update?
  • Are there any known challenges related to RD Licensing, Session Hosts, Connection Brokers, or Gateway servers?
  • Has anyone encountered DNS, authentication, or performance-related issues post-installation?
  • Are there any specific recommendations or precautions before deploying the patch in production?

We would appreciate any feedback, observations, or lessons learned from your environment.

    Yep - this should resolve the Remote Desktop Services sign-in freezes and server unresponsiveness caused by earlier September security patches. In particular, it fixes the service deadlocks that caused RDS sessions to hang at the "Please wait for the Remote Desktop Configuration" screen. Administrative utilities such as MMC, File Explorer, and the RDS Licensing Diagnoser also return to normal operation.

    We've still seen some audio-related issues (secondary USB audio Code 10 errors). Note that Windows Server 2016 does not receive a direct OOB update package, so you might need to refer to https://lazyadmin.nl/it/september-2026-update-break-rds-how-to-fix/

    You acquire the patches manually or import through WSUS using the Microsoft Support Portal. Consider avoiding completely uninstalling the September security baseline unless a server is not reachable (I assume that the update will be included in cumulative updates in October)
