Create a PowerPoint Copilot Agent Using Company Templates

I’m using Microsoft 365 Copilot, not Copilot Studio.

I want to create an agent that can analyse various file types—including Word documents, Excel workbooks, PDFs, images, and emails—and generate PowerPoint presentations based on my company’s templates. I uploaded the templates to the agent’s Knowledge section.

However, during testing, the agent changes the template formatting and removes elements such as the company logo and predefined layouts when generating slides. I also added the templates as Brand Kits, but the same issue persists.

Could the problem be related to the template containing 24 slides with different sections and layouts, including a cover slide, section dividers, and proposal templates?

How can I ensure that the agent preserves the company branding, formatting, and layouts when generating the presentation? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Copilot in PowerPoint is designed to work with complex templates that include cover pages, section dividers, agenda slides, proposal layouts, and other custom layouts. When configured correctly, it can preserve logos, fonts, colors, and slide layouts defined in the template

The more likely issue is how the template is being consumed by the agent:

  • Files uploaded to an agent's Knowledge section are primarily used as reference material, not necessarily as the presentation template.
  • Ensure logos, fonts, colors, and layouts are defined in the Slide Master and template layouts, not only on individual slides.
  • Use a.potx template and a Brand Kit together for the best branding consistency. The template controls layouts, while the Brand Kit provides logos, fonts, colors, and brand guidance.
  • Include representative sample slides for each major layout type, as Copilot learns from these examples when generating content.

If the template is already configured this way and Copilot still removes logos or changes layouts, it may be a current limitation of the presentation-generation experience rather than the number of slides in the template.
